Post Admin access denied after upgrade to phpnuke 7.6 Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2008 10:46 am

I wonder if anyone can help me with this please.

I upgraded from phpNuke 7.1 to 7.6 via the upgrade files in phpNuke 7.6 patchedv 3.1. As you may be aware the upgrade from 7.4 to 7.5 includes a reworking and dropping of tables in the database in nuke_authors. I still have a God account in nuke_authors.

When I log in to /admin.php I get nowhere. It just keeps asking me for my username and password. I also have Nuke Sentinel 2.0.2 installed. I read on another forum, that you can gain access by downloading the Raven Scripts ResetPassword.php, which I duly did. This time when I logged in I got the Admin page with the Log Out/Exit graphic and a small Access Denied in the top left hand corner of the Admin page. I was supposed to be able to reset the password from here but was unable to, thus had to go into the nuke_authors table in MyPhpAdmin to reset my password to something more secure. Then I got the login page in the nuke Admin area andmy password and username are just not recognised.

I have trawled many forums for advice and one has loads of occurances of this happening to people but has just as many different answers, and if the user gets confused or is not understanding, the head person offering advice appears to get very aggressive about it and ends up not really answering. So, I would be very greatful if the members here understand I'm not a phpNuke thickie, but really am quite confused over this one.

I have read your tutorial http://www.clan-themes.co.uk/tutorials-view-147-convert-an-old-module-to-work-with-76.html and wonder if that would help? The other forum offering advice mentioned about changing

Code:
$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']

to

Code:
$_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME']

in all instances, but when asked how many occurances and which files had this in, the person offering advice lambasted the poster and sent them to read documentation and answered no further.

So, maybe someone could try to help me fix the issue with my site and have a little patience for getting confused or asking questions. Thank you in advance.

Just to update.

Someone suggested I delete and re-dump the sql for the nuke_authors table which I have done. This takes away any Admin and gives you a page to create a Super Admin and log in. Only trouble is, is that when I create a Superuser, it doesn't go into the dbase and it remains empty. I have tried filling the dbase manually with the info - nick, passy, email, etc, but when I come to log in again at /admin.php, it doesn't recognise anything and I'm still logged out of Admin.

I've been to so many sites about this - there must be someone who can help me please?

This is driving me nuts! Retard

If you are entering your password directly into the table via phpMyAdmin or other database management tool do not forget to select 'MD5' for the feild before hitting save - otherwise your password will be saved as plain text and your log-in will never work.

You should also find that (in the readme) you actually have to remove some files during the upgrade which are now no longer used.
I am assuming you have upgraded incrementally and not gone straight from 7.1 to 7.6 so it might be worth having another reas of the readem txt for nuke vrsion 7.5 as that has some major changes and (to the best of my memory) was the update that required some file removals.

Just to complicate matters (sorry!!) if you upgraded from a non-patched 7.1 your Sentinel version may well give you problems so have a look in mainfile.php and comment out the line that says something like
Code:
 include..... nukesentinel.php...

You can also turn error reporting on in config.php to see if any errors are reported which might help you track down the exact problem.
