I wanted to let you all know and to get abit of feedback, encouragment or just your thought about smoking because I gave up the dreaded weed on Sunday - 17th June 2007.
Yer I know it's only been 5 days but, and this is huge for me, I've been a smoker for 24 years and the longest I've been without a ciggy has been when I was asleep.
I've already noticed that my breathing has improved and so has my appetite... well I won't die from the cigs but I might now die from being obese.
As some of you may know, I'm a train driver in the South East of England..... well as of the 1st of July, all of our region will be a no smoking zone ( you're not even allowed to smoke on the platforms ) so this too was a good insentive for me to give it up.
I'm also redecorating my house atm, so to make my home a no smoking zone aswell will hopefully improve my chances of succesfully giving up the baccy.
As the whole of England is gunna be a no smoking zone soon.... I was wondering what all you smokers out there thoughts are about what's happening to our country.... and hopefully get abitof encouragment back to spur me on.

Congrats dude.
The drug apparently is completely out of your system with 24-48 hours. The craving are mind based. The first 2 or 3 days are the worse so you are on the upward slide no. Nicotine is a stimulant thus a slight appetite suppresant. GO FOR IT.

I'm doing it cold turkey as most of the drugs to help peeps give up are infact banned by the Railway Doctors.... and it's even tougher for us drivers.
I can't even have NightNurse without running the risk of being drug screened.... and then I would be sacked.
Thx for the encouragment and the insight to what's to come..... hmmm, can't wait for the cravings to start all over again around 6 week
Cheers guys

Hey Duckster, I ask my Drivers Manager today about Zyban ( strange him being around really as you normally don't see any of the managers at the weekend unless someone had made a boo boo .. lol at least it wasn't me )
Anywho... he said congrats 'n blah blah blah, as I told him I had decided to give up smoking after puffin the stuff for well over half my lifetime and he said that Zyban is a definate no no where us train drivers are concerned...
Tis really weird with some of the drugs that we're allowed to take and the ones we're not, but unfortunately Zyban is one of the ones we're not.
Day 6 .... update.
It was at Dover Priory Station today that the smell of someone smoking made me fell rather ill.
I'd just brought the train to a stand and opened the platform side cab window to see who was getting on the train. At the same time a smoker on the platform had just exhailed a large lung full of smoke.... straight into my open window.....
I nearly lost all my lunch at that very moment.... yuk!

If by my quitting and talking about it promotes the fact that smoking is a horrible addiction and gets peeps such as your self Duckster to really think about what we're doing to our bodies and those around us we love.... then that aint a bad thing.
I hope you too manage to give up soon.
As for those many tips whilst out socializing, pure genius m8y.... I'll try them out soon and let you know how I get on
Thx m8y,
Scorps

I had smoked for around 12 years when I decided to give up. Isn't it amazing to get your taste buds back again
There are usually 2 ways to go when you stop, you either long to be around smokers cos you like the smell, or the smell of smoke makes you feel ill. Luckily for you its "the smell makes you feel ill"
The danger time is around 2 weeks, most people I know who start smoking again start around this time.
As a word of encouragement the benefits of stopping smoking are enormous. When I stopped I took up weight training and jujitsu, I went from a 10 stone weakling to a 14 stone semi pro fighter, now I'm just fat from too much guinness though

Thx Yukky, i'm already too fat atm cos all I do is sit down either here at my comp or at the front of a train.... but I'll keep you words in mind around the 2 week mark tho
If you're a semi pro fighting machine, why don't you get back into it..... you'll feel much fitter and ( as i'm told ) girls love a fit bloke... lol

I had an accident at work a few years ago. Broke my wrist, problem was it wasn't diagnosed for nearly 2 years by which time I needed an operation to sort it out
That sort of stopped my career! Getting a bit too old to get back in the ring
Just started Thai boxing again to try and keep the guinness off my guts
