Post Cod4 center info module v1.2 Posted: Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:13 pm

Shop Purchases:
Enemy Territory Theme (Aviator) for PHP Nuke

Before I get started on the information about this module, I like to be one to thank several people. One is 5STAR for letting me use his site for testing and displaying to the public. but also voicing his opinions to help further the development. I also like to thanks Joker from eXtreme mod team for allowing me to use information and put his SICK mod into the module along with ZeRoY, for creating some other SICK mods and allowed me to use any information I could find.
You can visit there sites at,
http://extreme.planetcallofduty.gamespy.com/
and

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, the change log is quite extensive since version 1.0. In this version,

- I cleaned up several design flaws that were overlooked
- Updated several files
- Reworked the navigation
- Added a whole section on skin modding and file to download and use
- Added a section on adding Custom maps to your server, how to clean dirty IWD's
- Added a whole section on mapping tutorials, mostly links to different ones that deal with different issues all laid out in a organized
manor.
- Added a section that displays custom mods out there, (READ BELOW FOR MORE INFO)
- Added a section for if you like to have your Clan/site/Game server plugged, or if you like to advertise an upcoming tournament, you
can. (MORE INFO FOUND BELOW)
- Added small bits of information all over, to many spots to mention. Spellings fixed, ect...

Okay, now you might be wondering what I mean above in the above statement. Where I said you would find more info below. Well here it goes.

Quote:
Just to break this down for you, this is just a way for people to get info about upcoming events, or there sites, or anything COD4 related, plugged on every site running this module. I found that it's better to work as a community and get more involved with COD4 to make it more enjoyable then to site back and do nothing. Since the release of this module in un-officially on 2-25-2008 and officially on 3-15-08, many request for improvement have come in for things to tweak and add to the module. Well since 7/20/08, I though about a way to help others , by request, to make it so the ability to update certain areas of the module could show information of upcoming events and advertise there mods or sites. This section of the module will be left open for anyone that would like to advertise here. Best part is, If your the owner of this site that this module is on, you don't need to do anything. All content of this is generated through my site and is streaming right to your site.

If you are looking to advertise in this module area, Please go to www.HeadShotDomain.com and register and account and visit the Ad Submission found in the top left of the navigation, and fill out the submission form. Sorry, but we do as for a donation to pay for the spot, but prices are very fair and easily affordable. More at the site.

For the Mods section, I am also streaming that through my site, which I will update like the banners and plugs, Mods being displayed must have a demo server for me to see, prove to me that you are the creator, an image to show for it, and have it hosted for download. If you need me to host it, I will, but there will be a 1 time fee for that, Other then that, if you have it for download and like your mod plugged, then contact me on my site through PM and I will set you up.

If you like to see this module in action
Visit: http://theelitenoobs.com/modules.php?name=COD4

Download: DOWNLOAD HERE

This will make it to its way into the club here, I am just a little slow. hopefully with in a week for I am busy, Floppy is busy, PeD is busy, and by the way things look, my cat is busy to. But you did not need to know that.

Post Cod4 center info module v1.2 Posted: Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:35 am

ok..i keep seeing these (Game_Name Center Block info) modules over and over...basically there is an ( Info ) module/block for each game available or at least nearly every game...

My question is:

1) The 'Content' & 'Info' available in the module...is it 'Hard coded' to the module, or is it fed to the module via XML feed?

The first problem with 'Hardcoded is that any 'Game Updates' or 'Feature Updates, youll have to release an 'Upgrade Script' to cover the new information... If you provide the data bia 'chached XML Feed'...then you wont have to release an 'Upgrade' for the module..you just have to update the data in the XML feed to display on any site with the script installed..

'If you want to allow some form of 'Customization' for webmasters using your script..then you may want to look into 'text' database storage..Storing the data to a text file, allows the user to customize 'Parts' of the module, using HTML code to make the module appear as if its their own 'Customized' version of the script.

You will not recieve help from me if i have to go digging for your CMS information and version, If i have to take the time to play 21 questions, then you can take the time to google! No Copyright, no support either!

THats a great idea bayler... so basicly we could keep XML feeds on clan themes or where ever.. and make the modules feed from the XML sheets, then when the game is updated we just modify the XML

liking it... except im crap with XML feeds !

if XML is too complicated for you, then try using a bunch of text files ( 1 for each menu page )

use ( 'file_get_contents' ) to read and print each text file....

Basically youd want to create a foreach statement which reads each text listed on your server. You can even be creative enough to allow the 'text file name' to act as the menu select name. youll have to tinker around to see whats going to grant you the most speed for page loading, as well as write an error command to close the script if its unable to read the remote text file just incase your server goes down, it wont effect the end client.

The text file, you would simply duplicate the HTML code that you have already in those php files of the module...
this is the PRIME source i use if i want to create a module, but dont want to use data from the SQL Database, what makes it secure is that there is no need to encode DB information to access a remote DB..and so long as your CHMOD settings are correct, you wont have to worry about someone editing your .txt files remotely.

Interisting idea.

Right now, everything is Hard coded onto the module except for that mod's page and the Advertisement page. Both of those pages have there .htm files hosted on my site and the modules call upon those files. That's currently how I have it set up. Maybe when someone bugs me to make another one for another game, I will try your suggestions. Not sure on the XML feed, but do possibly the text feed might work. But not sure if it would be easier to do the text feed or just do the .htm feed that I am doing now.
