Hi Guys and fellow genius peoples!

I used to run phpbb and recently ran an IPB board for my clan and going back to phpbb feels strange but i have a small question.

It is simple really - in the admin of the forum there is an option to let the admin validate a new user account but i have tested as have various members and they are able to sign up without my verification - this worries me.

Also i noticed in the tutorial documentation there is an option to mod the theme before installation so an image code is in place for users to login (much like there is on this site) would this make the site more secure?

Also one of the main reasons i ask these questions is because i am aware of spambots and hate them IPB was almost spambot proof as validation had to be done via the admin panel which is a totally individual login so was more secure.

Do you have any answers / suggestions for these questions?

Are you on straight phpbb or phpnuke?

If phpnuke set gfx_check in config.php to 7 this will eliminate your spambot problem. Also in phpbb don't allow anonymous to post.

gfx_check is that security image you have punch in to register and log in. Most bots can't get past that.

Sorry Floopy - this is what i was referring to:

So in effect new users would need to have me verify their account before they are able to be part of the site... Do you follow?

ah sorry, well you basically use a nuke wrap around your phpbb forums known as bbtonuke (<--means phpbb ported to phpnuke to work together) so basically your nuke users are your phpbb users.

There is such a thing a mod called approve membership and it basically waits for admins to approve them. If you have a high volume of users this is a problem because you must always be around to approve them.
