Ok,, I'm using the latest Raven and as we all know, it has PHPBB2 which we all know is useless. I install the bridge system that allows you to use PHPBB3 in the Nuke. Anly bad thing is, it has to be shown as a block in order to get it to function and retain the current Nuke DB so site users don't have to log in again to the new PHPBB3 forms. Thats all fine and well..

Now, what I want to do ditch PHPBB2 and use PHPBB3 exclusively. I'm talking fresh install own it's own. What needs to be done is having somebody ( merge ) the DB's so that when a user signs into the site, it also sign's them into the new forums. ( I do not want to use the bridged block ) system. I want it so that when the user clicks ( forums ) link on the site it shoots them to the new forums no log in required. I know it can be done. I just don't know how.

Any idea's out there ??

I have no clue, I know someone did port over phpbb3 over to phpnuke, but I don't remember where I saw that. I just have one question, how is phpBB2 worthless, for I have used bother and I have done some edits and helped others come out with mods for both and I personally find I rather operate and use phpBB 2.0.22 over any other phpBB out there. So I just wondering where you say its useless.

Personally, I find the "features" of phpBB3 worthless to me. And I rather have more of a clean cut forums that I can mold to how I like it and not deal with all the extra crap. Another downfall that I found to phpbb3 is that it is rather difficult for a new person to operate along with veterans. The layout and how they have things is rather difficult and if they actually never rushed the original to be released, then I think by the complaints they were getting from the beta testers would have been implemented. It took a double data disk crash to make them rush to get it out and to me, ruin it. That's why I left there and stopped helping my modding buddies there. And now each time I go to there site I feel like I am at a child's daycare center with its look.

I've used the ( bridge ) that came out for using PHPBB3 rather than PHPBB2. As I said it must be used in a block mode rather than directly. When I say useless, I'm basically referring to an ( unmoded ) straight out of the box version that comes default with Nuke. When posting and in the admin control, you really can't do much. You can stick threads, you can't pin threads, you can't lock topics. I just find it a pain.

If you have some links to mods for it, by all means post some. Are they simple to use for the common user ? Are there any draw backs ?

What phpbb you using. Every phpbb I have had, and used, all have been able to do that with out modding the forums.

Mind you that I started with phpbb 2.0.17 when it first came out.

Whats that from? I am running 2.0.22 with only 2 mods on it, and I am able to do those features. You not being able to do that is very strange.

Post Re: Phpbb3 without the bridge ! Posted: Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:49 pm

just out of curiosity, and this is by no means a dig or flame or what ever other people may read it... What is the fascination with phpbb3 and phpnuke ?
You have to ask yourself what is the point of going to all the trouble to add a bridge when there is no need in the first place. Whats wrong with phpbb2 forums. The only thing i can think of is that your going to be able to ban someone from 2 places instead of 1...

I tried to think of a + why i would want to install phpbb3 with nuke... fair enough if its a fully converted port... but a bridge just seems pointless in my eyes. I must admit though i have not yet installed phpbb3 so i cant really comment on what added features it has over phpbb3...

Dont forget phpnuke uses a port of phpbb2 (BBToNuke) Rolling Eyes

Is there a list of the differences between 2 + 3 ? I know that the code has been cleaned up and the templates have moved over from html to css based styles...
