Post Medals mod - {l_usergroups} missing? Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 1:35 am

Hi guys

Had a few problems with this mod. Firstly I couldn't create the sql tables. Kept saying that lines like medal_description` varchar( 255 ) NOT NULL default '', were invalid. Wouldn't let me add those tables until i stuck a 0 between the two ' marks at the end.

Now I'm near the end of the install (and so far the site's still working so, you know, that's good, and I come across this instruction...

Code:
#
#-----[ OPEN ]------------------------------------------
#
themes/YOUR_THEME/forums/overall_header.tpl

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#
{L_USERGROUPS}</a>

#
#-----[ AFTER,ADD ]------------------------------------------
#
 <a href="{U_MEDALS}" class="mainmenu">{I_MEDALS}{L_MEDALS}</a>

Problem is in overall-header.tpl, that line isn't there. I've checked some of the standard themes and it can be found in them but in the theme I'm using, XD-Zeda, the overall-header.tpl reads...

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset={S_CONTENT_ENCODING}">

</HTML>

So where do I put this edit? After that there's only one more to go (haven't checked if I can do that bit yet) before I'm done. I've googled it, searched this site, and not found anything on this problem. Lots of problems on installing this mod, from not changing the prefixes of the tables to putting the medal images in the wrong place, but nothing about missing {L_USERGROUPS}</a>  .

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and was it ok to stick zeroes in the sql tables when I created them? Open Mouth

Bugger.

I have answered this question before, in another post which is this one
http://www.clan-themes.co.uk/ftopict-3736-Medal-mod-for-phpbb-help-pls.html

but here is the deal most of the costume made themes does not have the option to add links like this, and yes what you are trying to add is only a link to your medals collection and description. in another way its nor important to add it, in matter of fact if your theme is not subsiliver you can not add it unless it is similar to it with the links side.

what i would suggest is to add an external link leads to your medal page other wise just forget about this add,,,,

and you can see that I did the same on my site as well, http://bhzclan.com

if you go to the forums you will see at the top four links one of them is to my medals page,

hope I helped you with this,,,

Hi blackfox and apologies for not seeing the earlier reply. I checked a bunch, I do assure you.

Thanks for the heads up; what a pain in the backside that is. Ah well, at least I now know and I thank you for that. Now I know it can't be done, I'll have a think about how else to do it.

Thanks again Pint

lets attempt to explain this:

a field with a [ 0 ] value is NOT the same as a field with [ ] or [ NULL ] ...

so, if a sql query is asking for any fields with [ NULL ] values....it will return a 'FALSE' because those fileds that are normally set to blank are now set to [ 0 ]...

typically speaking, it shouldn't hurt anything until future updates, or additional plugins become available...

say a new feature of ( Dislay Medals unassigned )...well that plugin would not work on your site because you have changed those fields wich would return a false statement which normally would return a 'TRUE' statement.

Its not advised to EVER change SQL tables manually from its original structure...in most cases that ive seen, people that do make changes to their SQL tables eventually loosing the data during an upgrade because that data and default field values are modified and must be rest to properly operate.

You will not recieve help from me if i have to go digging for your CMS information and version, If i have to take the time to play 21 questions, then you can take the time to google! No Copyright, no support either!

Post Medals mod - {l_usergroups} missing? Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 2:15 pm

So how should I have entered this sort of thing?

Code:
CREATE TABLE `nuke_bbmedal_user` (
  `issue_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `medal_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  `user_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  `issue_reason` varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  `issue_time` int(11) NOT NULL default '',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`issue_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

That's taken from the install instructions of the medal mod. When I went to add it through MyPhp it reported an error. Can't remember what it was exactly but it was something like #1067 - Invalid default value for 'medal_id' so I wasn't sure what to do. A little bit of googling later, a visit to Karakas and it would appear I got the wrong end of the stick and began to beat myself with it.

Oh well. And to think I once spent 4 months as assistant to a SQL DBA, eh? I clearly learned soooo much Bad HAir Day

Thanks for education Bayler Pint

Open your phpmyadmin...

navigate to the Database your using....

click the SQL tab...

then when the new window opens, in the large text area, simply paste that into it then click 'Go'.

That should run the SQL query ( This is provided that nuke_bbmedal_user doesn't already exist )..

There is no reason to insert any fields, as a person is assigned a medal, it would automatically create & insert those fields every time a person is assigned a medal.

That's what I was doing when #1067 - Invalid default value for 'medal_id' message came up. It wouldn't create the tables; that message came back for a bunch of the SQL statements the mod requires. It doesn't matter because of missing thing taht's the title of this thread, but I stuck the 0 in between the two ' marks so that the tables would create. Until I did they just threw out that error.

All of these gave those errors...

Code:
#-----[ ADD SQL ]------------------------------------------
#
# Remember to change the table prefix used on your database
CREATE TABLE `nuke_bbmedal` (
  `medal_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `medal_name` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '',
  `medal_description` varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  `medal_image` varchar(40) default NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY  (`medal_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

#
#-----[ ADD SQL ]------------------------------------------
#
# Remember to change the table prefix used on your database
CREATE TABLE `nuke_bbmedal_user` (
  `issue_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `medal_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  `user_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  `issue_reason` varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  `issue_time` int(11) NOT NULL default '',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`issue_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

#
#-----[ ADD SQL ]------------------------------------------
#
# Remember to change the table prefix used on your database
CREATE TABLE `nuke_bbmedal_mod` (
  `mod_id` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `medal_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  `user_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`mod_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

Sent but I don't want to waste your time with it Bayler, unless sending it to you can help others. I can't use it as it wants the - {l_usergroups} bit in the overall-header.tpl and it's lacking in our theme.

Added as an attachment. Good luck!
