without more information like ( What CMS your using )...the most anyone can do is guess at whats been done wrong...but typically speaking...

Your Download links are incorrect if they do not start with: http://www.yoursite.com/directory/file.zip

Please note: that files SHOULD be in .zip or .rar format. Otherwise most downloads will simply open the file to display in the browser.

You will not recieve help from me if i have to go digging for your CMS information and version, If i have to take the time to play 21 questions, then you can take the time to google! No Copyright, no support either!

How about trying this, remove the htdocs/ from the URL...

the URL you just gave gives an error message, but if you put in http://www.sia-hq.com/modules/Downloads/DFXPB.zip , it works...

Also, try putting a Downloads folder in your root, so it would be http://www.sia-hq.com/Downloads/DFXPB.zip instead of putting it in the folder "modules".

Also, if you going to keep going from your current folder, then instead of putting in the full URL, you can do modules/Downloads/DFXPB.zip or /modules/Downloads/DFXPB.zip

Remember this link is case sensitive, meaning:

http://www.site.com/downloads/filename.zip

is a different file than:

http://www.site.com/downloads/filename.ZIP

I just finished uploading about 700 some odd into a downloads section over 2 different sites, if you can catch me on msn as JUDGE_RELIC@yahoo.com or at Yahoo messenger as: JUDGE_RELIC I'd be more than happy to help you out and look at your links.

Chances are you are mistating the url.

Also to make it easy on yourself, create a "downloads" folder in your root and laod everthing into that folder. It shortens the link and makes for less errors.

i wouldnt start placing files for direct links in your Root, or nuke Base directories....

come to think of it, i wouldn't be placing those files anywhere BUT where the Downloads Module intended them to be placed...

The Biggest Reason is 'Leechers' ....Those of you paying for bandwidth....anyone with a direct link and a referrer blocker....well..you just paying out money so other 'un-intended' persons can leeching from your bandwidth.

example: i can set a massive File Directory listing on my own site, and remove link files from your server....i can go as far as even charge for access, while you foot the bill for bandwidth. ( And most people never knew where the file even came from )!!!

There is a reason for all that code in the downloads module...my suggestion is to stick with it!

Next biggest reason would be security....Sure its not fool proof...but it would at least be nice to ban a few Hundred IPs for accessing my Files without my permission... Again, the downloads module does that for you and automatically if configured correctly.
