Shop Purchases:
Battlefield 2142 PhpNuke Theme (Aviator) · Clan Roster v1.7 Php Nuke Module · Battlefield 2142 X-Theme (Ultimate)

I'm also using the RavenDistro on our site. Its very stable and easy to work with. Security is great, we've had numerous hack attempts and NukeSentinel has not let us down yet!

One thing I might mention is that unfortunately there is no gallery integrated with ravennuke which I believe is a pretty handy mod. There is another nuke 'DragonFly' which I believe is very secure also and comes with a gallery integrated already!

I'm wondering... are the theme's from here compatible with dragonfly nuke?

Dragonfly was forked from Php-Nuke at aprox v6.8. (From my weak memory) It is so vastly different from the rest of the nuke community, there couldn't be any direct or close fitting mods or themes.

My personal opinion, keep a very close eye on Nuke-Evolution for clan and team type sites, if you want functionality beyond RavenNuke, Nuke Evolution has it. They are also working on a clan/team specific version.

RavenNuke is very good, security is almost as good as Nuke-Evolution, it is compact and fast and works well for a site like this one.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no other flavor of Nuke that provides you with the dependability, ease of use, and security that Nuke-Evolution and RavenNuke do.

Post What Version Of Nuke To Use Posted: Sat Aug 04, 2007 11:23 am

I am using PNC 4.2.0, seems pretty stable with the exception of the VWAR, I was getting at least 10 hack attempts a day targeted at VWAR,
I deleted the VWAR out of my Database and off my site, now I only get 1 hack attempt every couple of weeks and sentinal stops them.
My Site = http://www.lazerett.com

I tried 8.0 on a test site and it was hacked within a week. I agree the only stable secure version at the moment is 7.6 patched 3.2.

PHPNUKE-CLAN.NET is currently working on version 4.3

At this moment im using Nuke-Evolution 2.0.5 because of all the addons, the great security and the auto-installer (yeah im a nOOb lol)
The support given by the Nuke-Evo team and all the other Nuke-Evo users is just amazing!
Also the whole community around it (evo-mods, evo-theme's, evo-help etc etc.) make's Evo for me the best choice.

Im greatly looking forward to Nuke-Evo 2.1.0 and Evo-Clan!

Still the question remains if there ever will be a stable secure release of PHP-Nuke after PHP nuke 7.6 patched for all CMS coders to work with...

Regards, Luke

Post What Version Of Nuke To Use Posted: Mon Oct 29, 2007 11:39 pm

I'm not a coder.
What I've learn in my fresh experience as webmaster is that no cms can really be secure. Any one can get the script and with the right knowledge try to find some failure on it. From the fact that the name of the file are more than explicit about their content, it's already a cause of insecurity.

The first cms I've try is PHP NUKE 7.9. At the biginning, I had a lot of problem with the forum.
I've test many version. Even try other CMS.

finally get back to PHPNUKE with version 8 : OK when patched by chatserv.

older version might still use the old SQL layer of nuke (dbi) which is over with mysql5 and php4 and 5.

The thing is that you have to put your head on it.
Install NUKE SENTINEL. a little bit ruff with the htaccess and staccess.

in sentinel admin,You have to:
1- set up staccess path in sentinel main admin. (make sure is where you mention it because sentinel 's gone write on it)
2- go to http auth and set up nickname and pass .
3- open htaccess and set the full path to your staccess and upload it at the root of your site
4- back to sentinel main admin and set up the full path to htaccess.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<Files .ftaccess>
deny from all
</Files>

<Files .staccess>
deny from all
</Files>

<Files .htaccess>
deny from all
</Files>

<Files admin.php>
<Limit GET POST PUT>
require valid-user
</Limit>
AuthName "Restricted"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /path/to/your/.staccess
</Files>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might not get it on the first time; just change the name of htaccess and do it all again from the biginning.

You have as well something call sql injection. it doesn't protect but let you know if some are trying to reach your database.

JP CACHE and cache lite make it run faster. do not jpcache the main index.php or modules.php and your_account index.
jpcache code only on the index of the modules that do not interact with registration.

As I say you have to put your head on it. But at the end of the day you have something nice and you really know what going on.

FCK editor with just the basic fonctions.

CHMODE the sensitive files properly. I've read on a forum that 404 is ok , unless you need to make a change on it then 604.
6 for the owner; 0 for groupes always. Because that this way mostly used for hacking attempts, and it's not needed for a normal website.
Even upload folders dont really need that permisson.

Gallery 2 is a good program. Can be bridged with nuke easily.

Most of the modules I've found here and by nukecops are working great.
If there is a trouble, it comes from the use of the old sql layer.

The thing is do you want something plug and play?
If it's the case, then go on with raven nuke or evolution.

What you are basically doing is what Raven Nuke did. It has thousands and thousands of edits and security fixes, as you just explained. So before i go on, i would highly recommend scrapping any Nuke i.e 8.0 and head for something that has been taken appart and look at, then fixed.

As in another post ped describes that NUke should do this themselves and take some advice from the likes of ravens, Evolution and Platinum.

But thanks for the tip, im sure some 8.0 users may or may not find it usfull.

I've try raven: had some problem with the translation. Holding a french web site.
by the admin, plenty code appear.
In english it's ok.

Try evolution: the files I've download seem to be corrupted. Couldn't run the install.

As I said, not a coder.
Only problem I had with nuke, is the forum: "too many pages loaded": just need a change in includes/ipban.php

Don't want to get involved in polemics. Just sharing my fresh experience.
Some knows more than me, sure.
