It's apparent here that some of the so called "evaluators" may be slightly tainted by either familiarization or a lack of knowledge. This is a problem is trying to assertain, or to give direction when it comes to suggesting what a person should or should not try. An example is given by referencing "security" which by all accounts is an important issue for us all. Platinum is no more or less secure than Evolution, than Evolution is less secure than RavenNuke. Security issues are generally an issue which is added by the person using the program, i.e through the adding of certain blocks and or modules. These are the true security risks. All the aforementioned platforms take the steps necessary to quickly close and seal security holes when found and by most accounts they do a good job of it.
So, the basic initative here, if there is going to be one, especially when "suggestion" is a factor isn't to access a security flaw, it is to access the options offered from each package and does those options support the users needs. In addition, what versions of each are truly bullet-proof security wise. It is no more fair to poke at Platinum 76b5 when that version is a beta and no where near a final release than it is to take a poke at Evo or RavenNuke whist during thier beta times.
Many factors come into play, how new is the person to php nuke, does size make a difference? Does a person need a basic package for simplicity or maybe a package with a ton of options that can be more directly used in a bussiness type of website.
It it always smart to go with a basic and updated package such as what RavenNuke offers, especially as a beginner. It is also a wise move to make the advancement to Platinum before seeking the Evolution version. Evolution is a bit of an oddball and if you dont have a stable background in the layout or format of php nuke then you will hate EVO, and you will be lost trying to figure out what the hades these people
were thinking when they put this program together.
I haven't tested or looked at most of the ones listed but I have tested and am running the 3 (platinum, evo and ravennuke) listed in this post. I do have to say each have their own advantages just as they each have their own flaws. But this isn't for us to decide for everyone, it is for us to "Qualify" a persons needs and skill level vs the platforms offered. Making those reccomendations make far more sense than making a blanket statement that one is better than the other. When in fact it simply is not true.
RavenNuke = beginner, none to low skill level, great basic and learning version.
Platinum = medium, meduim skill level, you should know whats going on when using this version.
Evolution = medium, advanced skill level, only because of the odd way they have their cms laid out.

Raven and EVO are great if you want to run fast and clean while adding specific features that you want as you need them.
Plat 7.6.b.5 is a full blown version of nuke that has all the popular features you could ever want. You can run an online store and everything else right out of the box. It also in my opinion is one of the most secure Nuke versions currently out there. It has Nuke Sentinel and the new Fusion security features. It gives those hacker jack offs a good double teaming. What Sentinel might miss, Fusion catches easily. I currently have 5 site running with the new Plat 7.6.b.5 and freaking love it.

I agree, my point exactly. They need to qualify the needs of the individual versus making a blanket statement that one version stands out over another, this makes no sense.
I respect thier opinions here, they do know what is going on. I just think they need to qualify better.

I started off with IPBNuke a few years back. It was alright but not exactly my cup of tea. So I then moved to the standard PHPNuke. That was alright but nothing special. Right now I have NukeSentenial and it is by far the best version that I have even used. I would use PNC with vWar and some other things but the security would be an issue. Going through a little extra trouble I downloaded vWar separately as well as most of the modules in PNC which I liked. So now I've got the best of both worlds.

I think the best advice these days is defiantly do NOT use the latest standard phpnuke and try out the main 3 contenders
Ravens
Platinum
Evolution
see which one you like prefer and go for it, its always personal preference at the end of the day

Well there is certainly some interesting debate here which makes a refreshing change.
I noticed quite a few staunch Platinum users here so if the admins here would indulge me in a slightly off-topic question?
Is Platinum still actively developed?

Actually Platinum is still being developed and is definitely a contender in Best CMS category with their b5 version (still in beta). I have had a look at that package and to be honest if you're looking for something with a lot of extra's it is a very nice package. Not as slim as Raven or even Evo but it's pretty decent.

HA! Finally..someone stated it out-loud...THANK YOU LONESTAR! This is why i loved working with you!
As lone stated...Nuke Platinum is DEAD at this moment...for tose that are into gossip...there is SOOOO Much more to the story then simply "LOKI" is Sick...although it is a major contributing factor...it is by far NOT whats preventing Nuke Platinum from further development!
This is ALSO why i recommended Nuke Evolution as a ( BASE CORE ) for ANY CMS !!!
To Date..outside of the Exploits that where intentionally put in place by former developers, Evo HAS HAD A REPUTATION for being hands down the most secure NUKE BASE CMS... ( Notice i said NUKE )
Nuke Platinums last reported Exploit was in the favorites.php file which was removed almost 14 months ago from all other MAJOR Nuke Distros!
Had Platinum followed suit, they would not had the issues with the B4 version Exploit!
While I cant complain about Ravens System, it lacks in development ( People simply moved on for added features )....which i believe to be stupid!
Which i CAN claim makes a VIABLE comparison to Nuke Evo, as thier distro is better supported in thier PUBLIC forums alone then Ravens!
which is why the Development team of Evo Clan Edition originally chose Nuke Evolution as their CMS to convert to a Clan Based CMS!
