Who are the Dealers of Destruction?
Well the story begins on a cold day in Minnesota on 4 January 2006. I (SFCMert) had just quit the clan I was a member of because they made a new rule that all members had to pay $10.00 a month to be in the clan. I hated the idea that you have to pay to be in a clan and began thinking of starting my own clan. I did not want to invest a lot of money until I knew the clan would survive; so I started a server from my house on one of my other computers and founded the Legion of Killers. We started out with just a few members I recruited and I started a website from one of those "free hosting" sites.
After just two months, our membership had grown to where the server hosted from my house wouldn't support us, so I spent some money and bought a "real server" and paid website hosting. Everything was going well; we had a "core" of about 8-10 members and additional 15-20 members that played off and on. We had signed up for Cyber Amateur League and Hostile Tactics Gaming Network League. In July of 2006 we had some of our members that were using hax (we do not allow haxors) and we finally had proof of it. So we expulsed them from the clan and a lot of their "friends" followed...we took a big hit on our membership!
That's where the Dealers of Destruction comes in, we had a lot of drama and the remaining members still wanted to be a clan, but we felt we needed to start new. So we formed ourselves into the new clan, established some rules for recruits, members and leadership of the clan and have remained together for the last year. We still have some of the members from the Legion of Killers and have two specific parts to our clan; general membership and our competition team (which we will be forming here soon).
I have personally been playing Counter Strike:Source since about 1 January 2003; I also play America's Army, Counter Strike 1.6 and Day of Defeat. We currently have a 20 slot public and 12 slot match servers, both are 100tic, 550FPS/30k rate boosted servers where our current 10 members play (our public server IP is 204.101.41.193:27015). I would like to get the general clan membership up to 35-50 members and have 2-3 competition teams that would compete in various leagues.
I have made numerous mistakes and bad decisions while trying to manage the clan...first was decision about hosting companies, website hosting companies, trying to instill a military structure to our clan, having too many rules for members to follow. I guess earlier, I wanted our clan to be a very structured organization...but I found out it is easier to just have some basic guidelines set-up and to have fun!
About six months ago I started to use PHP Nuke for our site and I started to run into some problems in the management of our site (since I had never used PHP Nuke prior). I posted in a help forum and it was answered by Floppy, even before Clan Themes came out. He assisted me greatly and imparted a lot of knowledge to me in working with PHP Nuke. He has always been very friendly and assisted and challenged me by not giving me the answer to my problems, but directing me to a resource where I could learn how to solve it myself.
I was pleased to see Clan Themes come on-board! It is a great resource for PHP Nuke with the shop, downloads section and custom files being submitted by its users and gives great guidance in their tutorials and forums. I joined "The Club" to get access to some of the custom downloads I wanted for my sites and will continue to be active on the Clan Themes site. All I ask is to keep up the good work!
